Perhaps VLC media player may work for you? Do you have Windows 7, 8 or 10? Initially I would have thought that the default media programme on your machine would be able to play external media?

I don't believe that there is currently a way to revert back to the old format. It seems as though they are "testing" this new format and may be reversed some time later.

If you're asking what kind of memory the 940MX is using, that would be 2GB of GDDR5 memory (VRAM) which is a current specification of video memory. DDR3 (RAM) is a previous generation of memory that is used on motherboards. Your laptop should be using DDR4 RAM though.
