    Amplifier and Speakers Noob Question

You can probably make do with a much lower rated amp like the lepai 2020A+. Sony (as well as all major brands) tend to grossly exaggerate the wattage ratings on their amps. I wouldn't be surprised if it was more like 5+5w. Also you may have trouble hooking the speakers up, unless you don't mind...

Stop, Thief! Why Using an Ad Blocker Is Stealing

One thing I've noticed is there are whole lot of people replying to this thread who don't know what the word "customer" means. If you don't give them anything you are not the customer, the customer is the ad vendor. Perhaps it is time to try a new business model? Maybe they could try linking...

Stop, Thief! Why Using an Ad Blocker Is Stealing

So I read the article and felt guilty, I figured I'd give ads a chance on Tom's because I like the content and trust the site. First ad I got "informed" me something was wrong with my computer and suggested I install their "official" drivers (Not that they said what the problem was, or what the...

    Connecting monitor to a laptop?

It should be fine. If it's the connector that went bad, then it might have something to do with it, but otherwise the monitor probably just died.

    5.1 sound problem

Nope that's not enough, it might be 5.1 in the computer, but without a way to carry the signal out of your computer to your home theater all you'll get is stereo. Lots of people ask this question, no one seems to like the answer.

    5.1 sound problem

This is the soundcard you need: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102035 Because it has optical out with dolby digital live(otherwise you'll just have stereo), and it has newer drivers. The turtle beach card only supports windows 7 and newer with default drivers (so it's...

    5.1 sound problem

The short answer is the only way it's going to happen is if you buy an external usb soundcard that supports either Dolby Digital Live or DTS-Connect and then hook it to your home theater via the optical cable.

Transfer 5.1 Audio from computer to another computer

There's a lot of ways to do it with 2 channel stereo, like the 3 way switch. And "technically" you could do it by putting 3 sound cards in your multimedia pc. But the easiest setup would be to just buy another set of $50 speakers. While I normally wouldn't recommend this with expensive...

Transfer 5.1 Audio from computer to another computer

Any reason why it has to go through the htpc and not to your receiver directly? If not, you could run a clone display (at a very small res) from the hdmi port of your gaming pc (assuming it has one) directly to the receiver. And yes, a small clone display may hurt your performance a little.

5.1 Surround rear speakers not playing sound

Sometimes there is "speaker fill" under controlpanel->sound->playback->properties->enhancements. Just depends on the device drivers.

5.1 Surround rear speakers not playing sound

The was a old shareware program designed to fix this, but I could never get it to work correctly. Two things work for me: 1 use xbmc as it has an option to expand the stereo, 2 get a creative card as they also include stereo expansion, you might be able to just install TruStudio and run that on...

    Looking for 32in 120hz TV

There is a difference between 120hz input and 120hz interpolated. TVs take a 30hz or 24hz input and smooth it to display 120hz motion. Which while it generally looks good, will add a frame of lag. I'm not sure if they smooth 60hz signals or not. When it comes to TVs only 4k tvs will accept 120hz...

    Looking for 32in 120hz TV

The only 120hz tv I know of is a 39 inch 4k display (though it only refreshes at 30hz in 2160p) cheap at $500 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889522025 I think you're only going to find 4k tvs doing 120hz(in 1080p), because it requires the same bandwidth as 30hz 2160p...

Connecting new TV to very old HI-Fi?

The three connectors on the back of the TV are an input, not an output (having the yellow video connector is the giveaway). Look for connectors without the yellow(they should be labeled ARC for audio return cable). Otherwise you are more or less out of luck
