Are you sure abios update won't fix it?

I am using a laptop so I am comfortable with opening but I would like to see other solutions first as I have not ever opened my laptop

So I have a lenovo y510p and when I turn it on I can see some of the lights turn on and the hdd attempting to read something but the display does not turn on. although I repeatedly have to try and eventually it will turn on 1-10 times usually my laptop hasn't turned on right now for like 20...
