    Thanks to you both. The digital to analog converter allowed the minisystem speakers to work as TV speakers, and now I’ll get the toslink splitter to let the soundbar join with them. Maureen

    Here are pictures of the back of the JVC minisystem and the LG TV. The aux inputs from tv to the minisystem would have to be via red and white RCA cords. The optical port for the minisystem is output only. I really do want to link both sound outputs together so they can be controlled together...

    Well, I’ve tried so many things, I’ve lost track. Only a few bucks to try one more! But I’d have to choose speakers over the soundbar, and not have both. Only one optical out of the tv.

    To be clear, the lack of input/output was on the 30 yr old minisystem. The soundbar is connected to the TV’s optical out.

    I had a Geek-Squad-like tech service come out to help me out when I couldn’t get the minisystem to work with the tv and he told me the inputs just weren’t there. It only had an output vs an input for audio (or the other way around). He advised a soundbar, but It’s just not as effective for me...
