if the ram is incorrectly placed by just a little amount, it can cause problems and even shortcuircuts. memory speeds doesn't affect anything negatively except for wasted cash if it doesn't support the speed since it will then throttle it down to a speed that it can use.

it might just be slow as default if it was designed as a more accurate but slow pad?

it could be a driver issue. i personally don't have the best experience with the killer net drivers. it was once giving me blue screen of death every time i played arma 3. and it didn't let me update at all which lead to countless uninstalls and eventually corrupted the driver and forever broke...

if it's a laptop then i'm sorry to bring the news but you can't upgrade it. only a very few specialized and very expensive laptops can be upgraded. by your specs i can see that yours isn't one of these specialised ones. you will be able to run most modern games but maybe not the very demanding...

already at that price i would higly recommend you looking at the Y50-70 instead. the thinkpad series are business minded so specs are kind of not important for those models. the main reason to get a thinkpad is durability and decent mobility. the thinkpad doesn't even come with a dedicated GPU...
