    I'd chip out the extra £50. You get an actual 4 cores and a higher clock rate in addition to all the fancy i7 stuff and it will futureproof your laptop to a degree.

    You'll find little to no difference in raw computing power between the two. The 5th gen may run cooler allowing you to utilise more of it's performance but that'll be up to the laptop manufacturer more than anything else. My advice is go for whatever is the best price for you.

    Your power input port might be broken, a know issue with the FW series. Happened to mine when it got dropped and the small plastic centre piece broke off

    True. SSD's are pretty much the be all and end all of storage devices. But they are still a pricey option and I'm not so sure about the powersaving features of them. I didn't notice much, if any difference when I swapped out my old laptops 7200rpm drive for a SSD. But it's a power hungry beast...

    Personally I'd go with the faster hard drive over more memory. 8GB of RAM is about the norm for modern systems and unless you're using heavy editing software or something, I doubt you'd even max out 8GB. You would definitely notice the difference between a 7200rpm and a 5400rpm HDD. Assuming...
