First thing is to check the system and application event logs for any evidence that the machine was active overnight (don't jump to too many conclusions as to the cause from any events found in the logs - various updaters etc. may well run without having been the cause of the machine waking or...

I forgot to mention... if the BIOS password prompt stops Sleep to Hibernate transitions then you should be able to change a BIOS setting to avoid requesting a password when resuming from Sleep (at the cost of some reduced security in the event of a theft etc.).

The battery may well be degraded is you have run it to 0% multiple times. One thing to check is Event Viewer - look in Windows System and Application logs for evidence the machine was awake during the period you thought it was asleep. Look in Task Scheduler... anything there waking it up...
