Laptop and notebook is the same. The smaller ones are the netbooks, and the slim ones are the ultrabooks. I got a nice laptop with a GT 740M and Core i3 1,8GHz that play lots of games fluently. It costs 400€ in my country. What is your budget?

Intel Core i3-4030U The AMD A6-6310 was a sweet choice too, but since Internet is flooded of AMD hating and biased reviews, I do not know what or who believe. They say is shitty and even claim the integrated Radeon R4/R5 was weaker than the HD 4400.

I am not sure about the processor, there are other laptops in the same price or less with a Haswell chip. The con would be integrated graphics instead of the dedicated GT 740M.

1000$ is not budget, that is a high end computer. If I were you, I would get the best haswell i5 and spend the difference in an ever more good GPU.

What model of laptop?

If you will play lots of games, go for the HDD one, otherwise the single SSD one got a more powerful GPU. I personally would go for the first.
