That cinches it, looks like it is indeed the LCD panel. It's super fine and almost invisible in some colours but it's definitely there. What do you think could be the possible cause of this? My laptop is barely two years old and is rarely moved from its desk.

I have a ASUS GL552J and one day after waking it up from sleep a very fine line appeared near the top of the screen. But it's only on the desktop. If I hover my mouse over it or open a window the line is covered up. The line persists even after I change backgrounds and it reappears shortly...
