sorry misunderstood! Seems ipods support A2DP (https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204387) maybe your adapter does not, have you checked?

If you require a decent sound stick with wired, bluetooth is compressed hence sounds crap! Othe option is buy specific gear to have better quality, see link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Bluetooth_profiles#Advanced_Audio_Distribution_Profile_.28A2DP.29
