    Thanks again USAFRet, I was only interested, if I were to use a large capacity HDD which is already well used, I figured it would be easier to copy onto a USB key if I knew what I was looking for.

    Thanks USAFRet I can't 'just try it', I'm trying to evaluate this particular model before I purchase one. Sadly your answer doesn't actually answer my question. i.e. When I record something, what file extension will I find on my drive ? Poppa.
