I don't have a specific recommendation for you but from my experience, Minecraft is mostly CPU dependent (it runs on java and I recommend using 64 bit java) so if you want decent FPS with Minecraft make sure to get a rig with a quad core cpu running 3.4 ghz or better, and get 8gb+ ram. Skyrim I...

Sounds like the western digital HD is damaged. Can you power down, disconnect and reconnect the hard drive? Make sure the IDE and power cables are snug. Does the hard drive spin\vibrate at all when you power up? Sorry I cant be more helpfull.
