    mps/wma nightmare!!

Why don't you set the output plugin of Winamp to 'disk writer' and then convert all of your files to WAVEs which nero will surely recognize?

Rip an entire CD to MP3 without tracks

Under the EAC pull-down menu there's 'Compression Options'. Under the External Compression tab you should point where your external compressor (e.g. LAME) is located on your disk and then set the other options (bitrate, quality, etc.) accordingly. In my case for example, the Parameter Passing...

Rip an entire CD to MP3 without tracks

Try the IMG icon on the left side of the Exact Audio Copy program or use the 'Copy Image and Create CUE sheet' from the 'Action' menu.

Rip an entire CD to MP3 without tracks

EAC (Exact Audio Copy) can do it. And it's free...

How reliable are hard drives in MP3 players?

    favorite audio codec

APE (Monkey's Audio lossless format) is my favourite. MP3 ,if done right, can sound very good too: Just try LAME's --alt-preset/--preset standard or extreme options. If you need to encode at really low bitrates, WMA and OGG do a much better job than MP3.

    WMA to MP3 copnversion?

Remember that this is true for all the lossy compression formats out there not just WMA to MP3 and vice versa. Also, MP3 (encoded at high bitrates with a good encoder, like LAME) sounds much better than WMA at the same bitrate. When you go to 96KBit/s or under that, the situation is reversed...

    WMA to MP3 copnversion?

There is a plugin for Nero to convert WMA tracks to an Audio CD. But this whole lossy to lossy conversion is a very bad practice because your music is already quite compressed and has lost some of its fine detail in the Wave to WMA process and converting this WMA yet again to MP3 smells of...

OGG Vorbis: Disadvantages to using it?

I don't know what encoding engine AudioCatalyst uses but I've got experiences with Xing and it was AWFUL. I mean, the sound was so thrashy, distorted and muffled I could never stand even those encoded at 256kbit/s. The best MP3 encoder hands down is LAME. LAME is a free open source project and...

OGG Vorbis: Disadvantages to using it?

OMG no, this is wrong! Have you listened and compared these files with a good sound card+good speakers or (better) headphones? A 128kbit/s MP3 will have quite a bit higher detail and transparency, much more air and sense of soundstage. Not that 128kbit/s MP3s (especially those encoded with...

    convert CD to mp3

    1. Get a decent and precise audio extraction program (EAC and CDex are both fine) and after setting the program to autodetect your drive features extract your CDs. 2. In EAC (at least, I use EAC and don't remember about CDex) you can set an external program to do the encoding task right after...

    Difference between dvd players

You may want to check out this site for a very thorough comparison and rating of different DVD players (from $60 to $8000): http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/cgi-bin/shootout.cgi?function=search&articles=5 In short, the expensive DVD players offer progressive scan (though via different chips and...

    making a mp3 cd for a stereo

This is important and interesting to me because I recently bought an amplifier and a pair of speakers and later on plan to buy a DVD separate that can play MP3s too. I heard from a salesman that some units have to be connected to a TV for choosing and playing the MP3 files i.e. you see a menu...
