I uninstalled Avast, and installed a different AntiVirus. The entire PC runs faster, and my programs now load in seconds instead of minutes. I think if I reinstalled Avast it would be OK, I think just having it installed over a long period (2-3 years) it got confused during one of the upgrades.

I think I'll try uninstalling Avast and try something else. I have a few things that are auto started but haven't been able to find them in my startup group so I haven't been able to get rid of them. One is ApplePhotoStreams. Thanks for the help, I'll try this tomorrow, it's getting late!
