I had same issue on my old laptop with HDMI cable but connecting with VGA cable fixed the problem. VGA doesn't need Display Drivers that's why it's able to show BIOS and also Setup screen.

It looks like some system files are missing i think you should create Windows to go via Rufus or official windows tool and boot with usb and backup your files and do a fresh install of windows 7

Does your laptop have a DVD Drive ?? Maybe that can be the problem. Clicking sound should only come from mechanical things (obviously) , but it could also be coil whine which is unfixable. I don't buy HP laptops because of issues like these, it's better to spend 50 bucks more to get higher...
