    Problem solved. I had inadvertently hit the button on the remote that turns off the sound- "signal sel" I think. Thanks for the interest.

    Hi, A Samsung 46" flat screen tv, a Samsung Blueray and an AT&tT Uverse and connected to my VSX521. The sound just died while watching TV news (or any TV program HD or other) but the sound is ok watching DVD videos or music CD's. Help. Robert.
