Not much on a 15" screen. If you are super picky then go with the 1080p screen. But for most people the 720p screen will be more than enough and not worth spending the $200 extra.

The Lenovo is the better choice, the video card is about 30% faster than the Dell. Don't worry about video memory. 2gb is fine. There isn't a huge gap between the 4th gen i5 and 5th gen i5.

I would upgrade what you have. 17" laptops are becoming less available and your hardware is more than enough for what you do. With a SSD and clean install of Win 7 Pro, your boot up times will be in the low 30's if not faster. All OS's boot up times increase as the number of programs installed...

The i5 is a much better processor. Also, Win 7 is the superior OS IMO. I have used 8.1 and absolutely hate it. I would go with the Dell hands down.

Figured it out. Dell laptops don't like the Silicon Power drive. Sent it back and got Transcend 128gb SSD. Working perfect.

I am trying to install a Silicon Power S70 SSD drive in my Dell Vostro 3500. The drive shows up in the bios but not during Win 7 installation. Any ideas on why it won't show up? Thanks.
