Under-powered, over-taxed UPS unit can "kickback". Adding up the wattage of your devices and comparing that to the wattage output of the UPS might reveal the problem.

In the past, I have used Puppy Linux boot DVD and used its file manager to delete folders and files I wanted deleted. However, afterward, if you can reboot into Safe Mode, then you can uninstall un-needed programs and utilities.

Will your choice support 16GB RAM? For high-end programming, especially in design work. And, if schoolwork is being worked and stored on the laptop instead of the school cloud, a reliable affordable set of external USB HDDs for backups will be a great idea - at least consider it. :)

Farbar MiniToolBox and Piriform Speccy can generate reports that will indicate background and foreground services, utilities, programs loaded and running. Don't post any logs or reports unless TomStaff ask for specific posting.
