The i5 will give you slightly superior performance in everyday usage, but they both just about perform very closely for the most part The 8550G APU performs better than the HD 4400 on the intel laptop so the AMD laptop has slightly better graphical performance

Ah right, yes the APU is a fair bit more powerful than the i3+HD3000

The first Asus laptop would be better for gaming, that 24GB SSD would also mean much faster boot up times. I'd recommend adding another 4 gigs of RAM into it though if there is a free slot available :D

If you're only looking to do those things then either of them should technically be fine. I do bet that she'd prefer something thin and light to carry, which the Acer would have the advantage at, the intel HD 3000 with that laptop should play those games well so as long as you're not looking to...
