PC Randomly drops off the network

How frequently does this occur? I've used the PowerLine network adapters before and have not had much luck with them (although that was quite a while ago, the technology has probably improved since then). When you lose network connectivity can you see if you still have link lights on your NIC? I...

    upgrade motherboard asusk50

Are you running a 64-bit version of Windows? It could be worth spending the money to upgrade, but I probably wouldn't. Most applications are 32-bit anyway and can't access more than 4 GB of RAM. With a machine this age, I doubt 6GB of RAM is a bottleneck as it is.

    upgrade motherboard asusk50

Notebook motherboards are custom designed for the specific notebook chassis. You won't be able to find a new motherboard that fits into your old chassis. If you want to upgrade to an i-series CPU, you'll need to buy a new notebook. --Russel

HTPC HDMI Random No Signal on TV

    Black screen of death

It is almost 100% certain you either have a failed inverter board or bad back light. If it is the back light, there isn't much you can do to economically repair it. But if it is the inverter board, you might be able to fix it. You can disassemble the monitor and look for the inverter board. Do a...

When closing display lid, How is power cut off to display?

It entirely depends on the design of the lid and hinge. Some laptops use a magnetic sensor in the palm rest with a magnet in the lid. When the two get close together, the sensor trips. Other laptops use a physical button located somewhere near the hinge. Of all the designs I have seen, none of...

RSA Hacked, SecurID a Little Less Secure Now

STravisReally? Do tell. Some root certificate authorities still use MD5 hashes to sign their certificates. MD5 has a weakness that has been known for about 15 years, but which was only really publicly exploited in 2005 (and more impressively in 2008). Basically, it is possible that two...
