    Why 5,400 rpm??

5400 RPM drives are cheaper and require less power to run, thus giving better battery life. 7200 RPM give better performance, but worse battery life, and generate more heat, which is always a bad thing in laptops. SSDs solve both of those issues though. :)

    DDR3 Laptop Ram - 2gb+4gb VS 2x4gb

Whenever running dual channel memory, it is always recommend to have the same type and capacity of RAM in each slot. Either way, 8 > 6. More is always better. :)

    Laptop Hardware Upgrade. Worth it?

The HDD change from 5400 RPM to 7200 RPM will help with access speeds, but a SSD would be better upgrade, performance wise. Multitasking should be better with more RAM installed. Gaming performance isn't going to change at all, though. If you are needing to keep this laptop for a while, the...

    Laptop Crashing/Freezing :(

Try to isolate if the issue is hardware related first. Try booting into the BIOS(F2), and there should be tests for the RAM and HDD. Run both tests. If either fails, replace failed part. If they both pass, might be an OS issue. When you installed Windows 8, did you do a clean install or an...

mouse works but keyboards stops working after idle time and win7 unlock screen appears

Are you using a keyboard with custom drivers, or one without custom drivers? You can try going into Device Manager and unistalling the keyboard drivers. Usually Standard PS/2 keyboard is listed, might see another one if using keyboard with custom drivers. Uninstall both if there are 2. Then...

    Laptop stalls before POST screen

Do a hard reset. Remove battery and AC power, then hold power button down for about 15 seconds. Clears any saved info in RAM that might be causing system to hang. Outside of that, try reseating the RAM and the HDD. Edit: Forgot that Ultrabooks have sealed batteries that you don't need to...

    Multiple Users On Single Computer

I was just reading your link. Looks good. Displays and devices are connected using USB over ethernet. Pretty cool stuff there. Good find.

    Multiple Users On Single Computer

You would need 'terminals' to be able for each of the users to interact with the system. That is what the computers will be used for. There is no way you can setup an 8 way display split and have 8 different users interacting with a central sytem without separate computers acting as terminals...

    Multiple Users On Single Computer

Are you looking to setup 8 different workstations, but have them controlled(security permissions, access to networked resources, etc...) from a central computer? If so, there are several ways to do this. 1. You could setup a workgroup through Windows, and have the central computer act as the...

    Repaire laptop motherboard

What do you mean by problem with the motherboard? More specific, please. In most cases if it is a motherboard issue, laptops are not good canidates for repair, depending on the age of the laptop.

Problem with hard drive for hp laptop.

HDD might be toast. Like rgd1101 suggested, try using the HDD with another computer. Easy way of doing this is getting an external HDD case for 2.5" HDDs and putting it in there and seeing if another computer can access the drive. If its still accessible, the drive is most likely okay, but...

Acer notebook locked forgot admin password

If it's just the admin password for Windows that is locked, no need to get a new hard drive. Just reinstall Windows. Your laptop has an OEM copy of Windows, so you would need the reinstall disks that came with your computer for this. If you don't have it call Acer. They should be able to sell...

    How to Improve Performance?

Which two options? For the new laptop, you would gain a performance increase with a newer Ivy Bridge cpu, as well as being more efficient. A new nb, let's say with an i5-3210M would have a higher base clock of 2.5 GHz, Turbo Boost of 3.1 GHz. Depending on the motherboard, the CPU can handle up...

Can I upgrade my whole MOBO (CPU, Video Card etc.) on a HP DV6

Just searching for a dv6-2000 series laptop(which I think is what you have), all I can see are several different options for similar Turion 64 processors, and no upgrades for mobos. The cpus average about $250 each, and if they are an upgrade to what you have, it is only a bump up of maybe 100...

Can I upgrade my whole MOBO (CPU, Video Card etc.) on a HP DV6

Like me and xtreme5 advised, go with a new laptop. Not very reasonable to upgrade the mobo, cpu, and gpu. Even if you did find a board that fits your series of dv6, the kinds of cpus and gpus you can upgrade to are limited and very expensive. You also run the possibility of losing functionality...
