So the on/off button shutting off the laptop is part of Windows (not part of the firmware?).

Is that in the bios?, right now since the hdd isn't connected to it all I can get is the bios.

What I need is some way so if I short the connector it will start the laptop (when the battery in connected) but it won't cause a hard shutdown bc the switch is closed for more than a few seconds (right now if the switch is closed (the on/off button is pressed down) it shuts the laptop off after...

I have a broken connector on the main board of my laptop it's the connector that goes from the main board to the on/off switch, right now the only way I can get the laptop to start up (since the HDD isn't attached it goes right to the bios screen) is to run a screw driver across the connectors...
