I'm going to try the yellow wire first. I don't believe it's the amplifier because if I remove the yellow wire from the amplifier the sub continues humming, it only stops when the cable is removed Subwoofer side. I'll try this and see what happens.

So what could the potential problems be/how would I go about solving then?

I have the Audio Technica ATH-M50x and I love it. I use it to listen to high fidelity audio all the time and couldn't be happier. Costs around $150 Canadian so you also save a little money unless you want to opt for a more expensive model but I love these ones.
