HDMI output often have troubles with correct picture scaling. Try to find scaling options in TV menu. I'd happily tell you how to find that option in more details, but, unfortunately, you haven't mentioned your TV's model. OR try adjusting Aspect ratio options on each device.

Try to connect your camera to another PC or use card reader to access your files directly (of course, if your photos are stored on SD card). Also, you can connect your camera to PC again and look for your pictures in folder called DCIM.

You can try to find them in LOST.DIR folder using a file manager app. If you can't find them in there, they are unretrievable.
