    Have you enabled microphone boost? It can usually go up to +30dB Control Panel > Sound > Recording > Microphone > Levels

    finding a gaming headset with a good mic

    I have a a pair of Sennheiser G4me zero headphones that are amazingly comfortable. The sound is what you'd expect from sennheiser and the mic is fantastic. Best gaming headset for the money in my opinion.
