Ion Rocket Engine Can Take Us to Mars Faster

AlexTheBlue Do you think solar panels would generate enough electricity to reliably power these things? The current VX-200 generated 201 kilowatts, enough to keep the ISS afloat using .3 tons of fuel. I've seen estimates for a Mars mission requiring a 10-20 megawatt ion engine. That would...

Canada Resorts to Net ''Throttling'' as Last Resort

AnonymousThere are more and more news about digital distribution, legal media streaming, ...But this kind of measures from ISPs would definitely hurt the digital economy. Exactly so. How about they crack down on spammers to free up their bandwidth first? Crazy I know...

Airport Body Scan Banned From Children, Teens

As long as the diffusion rate is known and can be made to take more hours than the trip through security pretty much any chemical or compound can be sealed inside a container with no sniffer that can get around it. Some of these measures are silly. NO LIQUIDS!!! OMG!!!... right...because its...

Hospital Glitch Gives Patients 8x Radiation Dosage

pronukeWow, the ignorance in the comments for this story is astounding. Yes a mistake was made, yes there is the potential for serious consequences of this mistake, but in reality the radiation doses received by these individuals will most like not end up causing any permanent damage or...

    Opinion: Why Netbooks Are Doomed

butcher11.6" is hardly a netbookwhen netbooks first came out at 7" with linux i had a little chuckle to myself about how annoying they would be to use and how it would just be a fadnetbooks have been slowly getting larger and larger and have pretty much just turned into a cheap alternative to...

Surprise! Nintendo Wii is NOT Top Seller for April

BigBag you made me laugh pretty hard. ;) But yeah, the gist is that the DSi ditches the GBA slot and sacs some of the battery life to be a more multifunctional device with web browsing. If I'm not mistaken Toms released an article highlighting the differences a bit ago. And mcnugget, all...

Plasma HDTV Technology Isn't Dead Yet

I can't help it...when I think of laser TV...I have this image in my mind of a lasers tracking your head and following it beaming the image directly into your eyeballs. Someone walks across the room carrying laundry...you quick turn on the laser TV on some horror flick and it blasts the images...

HDMI 1.4 Includes Ethernet, 2-Way Audio

DallerPretty silly calling it 1.4 when it isn't compatible.. they should call it 2.0. Agreed. I personally am all in favor of condensing cable clutter where possible. Even managing it well still ends up looking like a rats nest on the other side of the reciever. ;)

Zune HD Might Launch in September

Having HDMI out is pretty slick. Being able to blast videos onto a device. Take it over to a friends, and play it back on their TV/surround without needing a laptop, or burning disks etc. etc. is a pretty nice option. Like many though, I'll be skepticle until I see its actual tested performance.

Rumor: New Zune Coming, Don't Buy iPhone/Pre

As long as it lasts through the day on a single charge and I can replace my own battery it might be something I'd consider.

    Next Gen iPhone Specs "Leaked"

For the most part. Any device that doesn't allow me to replace the battery...and wants me to pay some obnoxious fee to have someone else open a case and replace it...is a device I will not buy. That would be like buying a projector...and when the bulb goes bad, have to ship it in and pay 2x...

    Internet Flaming May Become Illegal

Right...but as mentioned many times now...there already exists laws to deal with harassment and racism etc. etc. etc. So making one set of rules for theatening your life in person or over a phone etc. and a harsher set of rules for threatening your life online is absurd. If some jack@ss gets a...
