the re-installation worked i manually downloaded this patch http://patches.rockstargames.com/prod/socialclub/Social%20Club%20v1.1.6.0%20Setup.exe everything started running normally and oddly enough i don't get fps drops in games any more but the odd readings in msi afterburner still remain
