If he could right click the task bar and click "start task manager" and go to the performance tab, it will display RAM usage. It be a good idea to have all the programs he runs open to see what his usage actual is. If it's crossing 4GB, then an 8GB stick would definitely be worth while.

That's a good question. I have not experimented with readyboost myself. Since readyboost is a software performance increase, it still wouldn't perform as well as real hardware, the RAM.
