[SOLVED] I have solved the issue by following a sequence of windows user folder renaming, re-configuring IDT and rebooting system several times.

Laptop: Dell Vostro 3500 I'm having 2 O.S. installed viz. windows 7 and linux mint 17.1. The 3.5mm audio jack is working fine with linux mint but not with windows (which it did a few days ago). Normal audio output through laptop speakers are okay though. I tried re-installing the audio drivers...
