The AirTag in my suitcase failed me when I needed it most — but it was entirely my fault

Silly typo, thanks for the spot that's been fixed. Good tip about the battery though, so long as you remember to put it back in!

News One of the worst things about smart homes reminded me why I'll never use an iPhone

Malware can and does exist on iPhones. Sideloading isn't the only source

News One of the worst things about smart homes reminded me why I'll never use an iPhone

If you go back and read it again, you'll notice that this was never an Android problem - it's a smart home issue. But an Android exclusive feature was the reason I was able to get some resolution.

    I just canceled my Google Pixel 8 Pro pre-order — here's why

Unfortunately the trade-ins here aren't nearly so generous. It wouldn't even cover a quarter of the price of a 128GB model. Not that it would have mattered to me, I was going to repurpose my old phone regardless, but it means there may be more than a few people similarly put off my the high...

iPhone 15 getting USB-C sounds like a win, but Apple could ruin it all

There's nothing hateful about pointing out impractical and anti-consumer decisions.

iPhone 15 getting USB-C sounds like a win, but Apple could ruin it all

Apple is almost guaranteed to have a USB-C to USB-A cable you can buy. If not third parties will be filling in the void, so car connectivity shouldn't be an issue. — even if any random USB-C cable you have lying around doesn't work

Google’s Pixel Stand 2 changed my mind about wireless charging

Unfortunately it's not the case that's the problem! I've no idea if it can conduct wireless charging because there's a popsocket grip and a magnet (for the stand in my car) in the way. Unfortunately both those things are more important to me than the convenience of not peeling the case off...

I used this thermal camera to identify heat loss in my home — here’s what I found

Now that you say that, t's a wonder I didn't realize that earlier. Such a simple mistake! I may have to go round and take another look round the frames

I’m renting an electric car for my vacation — and now I'm nervous

It was rented from Hertz, they have a fleet of Model 3, Model Y and Polestar 2s. They're not the only rental company to carry EVs, but they have been buying them in fairly large numbers

News The $25k Tesla hatchback is the only Tesla worth caring about

Full autonomy is still a way off, and even Elon Musk has just admitted that achieving it is significantly harder than he thought. Then we have to consider the legislative response, and the rollout of services and infrastructure to support it — both of which are pretty slow-moving machines...

News The $25k Tesla hatchback is the only Tesla worth caring about

Well either way you look at it, it still makes the Hatchback an incredibly important car. The $25k price tag will appeal to those people who don't look beyond the initial purchase price, while the fact it's an electric Tesla means that the long term cost of running it will be less than an...

News I used an electric car to drive to my brother’s wedding — and I barely made it

The goal of this trip wasn't just to get to my brother's wedding. It was so I could personally experience what the Leaf can do long distance. There's only so much of that you can work out on a test drive, or driving within 10 miles of home. That's also why I left far too early, because I wasn't...

News I used an electric car to drive to my brother’s wedding — and I barely made it

If I could afford a Tesla, I wouldn't have a Leaf. At the very least I wouldn't have the entry level model
