cheers for the reply, it started working randomly the day after i posted, displaying all the surround options as well as stereo...up until today and now its done it again, just showing stereo....so i will give this a try. i appreciate the help, thanks

i have a sony 7.1 surround system that ive linked my computer to via hdmi. the problem im having is when going on playback devices, and clicking on "sony avamp4" to configure speakers ( its only showing stereo, where as it previously showed 5.1 6.1 and 7.1. to say this problem is driving me...
