Solved! HTC Vive vs Oculus Rift

Basically.... If you can tolerate the 'screen door' effect and are not planning on playing any demanding games, then you'll be fine with either headset. If you decide to hold off and wait for a better headset(higher resolution) then you will for sure need a higher end graphics card regardless.

Solved! HTC Vive vs Oculus Rift

If you're doing simple things like Cliff House or Google Earth VR, then a card like a 1060/970 is going to be just fine with current gen headsets. Gaming on the other hand.... Here's the system requirements for Fallout 4 VR: Minimum: OS: Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit versions)...

Solved! HTC Vive vs Oculus Rift

1060 is near minimum system requirements for VR. Realistically you're going to want a 1080 Ti(or wait until the next gen nVidia cards come out in the next few months)

Solved! HTC Vive vs Oculus Rift

If you are one of those people that notices 'artifacts' on screens and makes a big deal of video appearing 'blurry/grainy', then do not have a VR headset(yet). Wait until they release newer models with higher resolution. You are going to hate the "screen door effect" on current gen headsets.

External display connection USB-C or Micro-HDMI?

In this case, there would be no difference.

External display connection USB-C or Micro-HDMI?

VGA would not allow for sound output. You'd have to have the HDMI connected to the same system & set the VGA as the active display... then in sound properties set HDMI for the audio.

External display connection USB-C or Micro-HDMI?

You'll get audio through the HDMI output on that one.

External display connection USB-C or Micro-HDMI?

You want to make sure you use a microHDMI to HDMI cable, not an adapter if you want to make sure you get audio properly. Something like this would work fine: https://www.amazon.com/Fosmon-High-Speed-Support-Ethernet-Return/dp/B0117XEFXG

    Is driversupport.com safe?

99.9% of 3rd party "driver" websites have malware. If you need a driver, you should only go directly to the manufacturer's website.

Will these parts be fine for VR?

The official VR minimum system requirements specifies an RX 480 or a GTX 970. Although nVidia has updated it on their end stating that GTX 1060 is now the minimum.

    Keyboard not responding

Try uninstalling the keyboard driver from Device Manager & reboot the laptop(it will automatically re-install the driver when it comes back on). If it's still not working, the keyboard may have gone bad. Luckily the keyboard is really cheap($12 - $17 on ebay and available in black or white).

Help make my PC VR ready

That i5-2500 is below the minimum system requirements for VR. The minimum requirement is an i5-4590, which out performs an i7-3770... so you're going to have to upgrade both your CPU and motherboard. If you get a socket 1150, you'll at least be able to continue using the same DDR3...

VR can I run it and is it worth it .

That being the case, once you have the 1070 then you will be good to go with VR. The only downside then would just be that "screen door effect" I mentioned. It may or may not bug you too much.... but due to the resolution on the headsets, when you look around... everything looks a tad...
