What's wrong with my Sony VAIO???

By won't work, what exactly do you mean? Does the installer finish? Is it just that you can't run the program? Do you see files in "Program Files" for that program? How many antivirus softwares do you have installed?

    VAIO VGN-AR21s won't boot

If the old mobo doesn't work either, it probably wasn't the mobo to begin with. What else is on a seperate board? Power, USB controller? SATA Controller?

    Speed up fan?

If there isn't an option in BIOS, then the fan management may be locked on the mobo. Sometimes newer drivers have these features added, so if it's a new laptop keep you fingers crossed. Assuming you have everything updated and none of the drivers are noticeably bugging out, you may be out of...

    VAIO VGN-AR21s won't boot

If it still doesn't work after a hard reset then the BIOS is probably corrupted. Can you boot from a USB or CD? Try an OS that isn't designed for UEFI: Puppylinux, Ubuntu etc. The only other practical way to flash BIOS is on a bootable USB. Otherwise it's back to the manufacturer. I am a bit...

    Speed up fan?

Need specs. Not just what processor but the model of the laptop. Have you tried the aptly named Speedfan? My sony laptop has options in VAIO control centre to speed up the fan. It should be implemented in a driver somewhere.

    Need to do factory reset

2 Things you will want to preserve: Important data and Software Licenses Make sure you have your windows 7 activation key and any other keys for installed software. If you can't remember download software to extract the keys. A quick google will bring up things like Belarc advisor and such. I...

    HP Envy 15 Heating Problem

It depends. The two primary sources of heat are the processor and the GPU. The PSU technically is there as well but in a laptop it is an external power brick. The haswell i7s are designed to be powerful but efficient, which is why you can even have them paired with a dedicated GPU in a laptop...

    VAIO VGN-AR21s won't boot

There are hundreds of things that can go wrong. Thermal paste may not be conducting enough heat, the inverter may be damaged. The motherboard itself may be faulty. Lets start with the monitor. Do you have an LCD logic board handy? perhaps from an older computer? I can't think of any other ways...

    HP Envy 15 Heating Problem

It switches based on the configured power plan. When the laptop is on power saver it should force the integrated on and the discrete off. If there are options missing then the driver may be out of date or corrupted. Update the graphics driver from HP's website.

    HP Envy 15 Heating Problem

Any laptop with discrete graphics pushes the thermal capacity of the heat sinks much higher. Turning of that hot-hot GPU should help. Does your laptop have options to configure Optimus or are you forced to stay with the discrete (740m)? It should look something like "Force Power-Saving GPU"...

    blue screen redux

Update the driver for your USB controller. Also, check event viewer and look what the fatal error was. HP should have the drivers on the support website. A quick google can also get you non-OEM generic ones.. Also, is this limited to a particular USB device or any? A particular type...

    VAIO VGN-AR21s won't boot

Can you actually get into the BIOS? (I think one Sony's Vaios you just press the ASSIST button whilst shut down). Do the lines appear in the BIOS or only when loading windows? Are you on UEFI bios? I can't seem to find your specs online, could you please post those as well? If you can get into...

    Is this a good laptop?

Some games are really CPU intensive, depending on the games you're into you might run into some problems on a dual core. The system's configured purposely to sacrifice processing power to lower the TDP to make room for the graphics card heat. Like firo40 said, you'll be fine on most games at...

Simulated keystrokes aren't recognized by my laptop

Some of the bloatware from HP may be capturing keystrokes. Antivirus softwares can also interfere with this. Try disabling both.

    VAIO VGN-AR21s won't boot

Did the motherboard come with the BIOS flashed? Often these replacements are taken straight off the assembly line before several other steps down the line and are meant for repair shops. Sony service guides are hard to find online as they are often not published because they don't want end users...
