What type of cables are being used to transmit your output signal? If they're unbalanced jack connectors, they'll likely cause ground issues. Make sure you're using something balanced for this! (Balanced XLR or TRS is standard). This will, hopefully, prevent any issues in the future.

I know that Audio-Technica make some amazing headphones. Have a look at anything from the ATH-M line. The ATH-M50Xs are very popular, and I've heard great things about those. Let me know if you need more help.

Honestly, that's a really decent laptop. It seems as though it'd sell really well but because of the cosmetic damage, it might not go for quite as much. I'd say anywhere between £350-450, but it's only worth the amount that someone is willing to pay for it. Your best bet is to put it on ebay...
