Lenovo Y500 CPU running way too hot

Best thing to do with a laptop runnung hot is to clean it. Take the lower panel off and use a can of compressed air to clean as much as possible. Fan, heatsink, air intake/exhaust crates and all the components are propably coverd with dust which can cause massive overheating. I recently did that...

Does a RAM upgrade make sense (ASUS K52F - web browsing/office)

Ok, so I've been doing some testing and my RAM usage is usually at around 50 to 65%, but I do get those 98% spikes out of nowhere and my system catches a hiccup there. It's a very short moment, I don't know if it's something I do or is it the OS, I don't see a pattern yet. But perhaps that 1GB...

Replacing CPU instead of whole laptop?

The G505 is not a gaming laptop and swapping that CPU will not change that. I would say it's not worth the effort and money, but if you want to give it a try first take a look at some benchmarks to see if that new FRU will actually give you a significant performance gain. Secondly - you say the...

Does a RAM upgrade make sense (ASUS K52F - web browsing/office)

Hi, everybody! I'm thinking about upgrading RAM on my laptop, but I'm not sure if it makes any sense. The laptop in topic is an ASUS K52F with an i3 M380 CPU and 3GB of RAM (Win 7 Home Premium x64). I use it mostly for web browsing, office stuff and occasionally I watch movies on it. It's...

i need a long lasting mobile gaming laptop.

This is a great laptop, but IMO it's overkill. Like what would you do with all that RAM? If you're not doing any heavy video rendering/editing/streaming then why would you pay for something you won't even use? I suggest the Acer Aspire V17 Nitro...

Need help on choosing budget notebook

No problem, man. Check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCUoxGTLgbE like I said, I don't know much about Linux, but perhaps this could work. You'd have to dig into that. An external HDD is good for storage, but not for applications and I imagine a 16GB SSD can be too small for some...

Need help on choosing budget notebook

Oh, I didn't say anything about those two you selected. Pretty decent machines actually. The Tegra is an interesting piece of hardware. The processor is faster than the quad-core AMD and if Tegra's graphics are as badass as advertised, I'd pick the Chromebook over Stream. And yes, I think you...

Need help on choosing budget notebook

unselected :) 350$ is a tight budget for a gaming laptop unfortunately. Perhaps something used would be a good solution, if you're willing to buy second hand stuff of course. I'll take a look around the new ones in that range and get back to you in a few moments.

If you're looking for a budget laptop I would suggest checking out Acer's stuff. They are usually cheaper than their equivalents of brands such as HP, Sony or Asus.
