There's no such thing as future proof, especially with laptops. Haswell is dropping soon as you mentioned, but it won't be a huge step up on ivy bridge from what early reports have said. In the end buy for the now, not the future.

Either my above suggestion, or make each circuit a separate layer. Teach them how to access layers, and have them only turn on the layer with the circuit they need. Paper copy will probably work better though.

If I follow you correctly, you could make an individual map for each circuit. Make a book with all of them. Put tabs on each page with the circuit number.

Looks to me like you'll need a new mobo. Problem with something like this is that quite often the visible damage isn't the only damage. It may have cooked other components as well. Sorry for the bad news :(

You've probably accidentally locked it using the laptop function keys. Hold you laptop's function button, and press the number button that also has a symbol that looks like a touchpad.

Start your laptop in safe mode with networking, and download malwarebytes. Run a scan.

If the screen will light up, even temporarily, and no other changes were made other than swapping out the screen, I'd suspect a bum inverter. Get in contact with whoever sold you that screen and get a new one.

Hmm, odd. Perhaps the one of the fan's PWM control wires came loose or something, but that is pretty far fetched.

My apologies. Seems like I misread your first post. So you replaced the inverter, and yet the backlight still will not come on? Damn... I had the exact same issue. If I shined a flashlight onto the screen, you can see that the image was there. As mentioned, my issue was resolved by replacing...
