    Unless your new laptop has a second slot for another drive or something along those lines no. You would need a dock or have a desktop and hook up the HDD through there. If you have no way to charge the laptop the only way would be to take the HDD out.

    You could get a docking bay, seems like a waste. A better solution, in my opinion, would be to get a 2.5 External HDD case and take your old laptop HDD and put it in that. So then after you move all the files you need over, just format it and you got another external drive.

    I would assume no since you said "the laptop". Could you tell me the specific mode of the WD Element E-HDD? Laptops are typically 2.5" HDD. I think I may have seen a laptop that was 3.5" HDD, but I am not sure. Most E-HDD are 3.5 unless they're an E-SSD. Those are 2.5.
