Just get the 1080p screen. 4k is overkill at 15" especially when you add in the fact that it may only run at 48hz, and that it's useless when gaming for the most part since that graphics card can't really handle that resolution on a high end game. Other than that, I have a y40 and I love it...

Yeah eximo I agree, docking stations are super popular. In the defense of at least my laptop, the exhaust is located in the space between my hinge, so it's closed shut when the laptop is closed, could overheat

I believe it's caused by closing the lid oddly enough, it's intel dtpf technology? It cuts the processor and other things in half when the lid is closed.... And there's no bios option to disable it on my machine.

I have the y40 and I gotta say, this is the most tight and well built laptop I've come across. I would compare the finish and build quality on my particular model to an Apple product.

Okay so I had a recent power surge that killed my desktop PC :( I luckily just purchased a Lenovo Y40 laptop that has two graphics cards (Intel HD Graphics and an AMD R9 M275) I can get it to run with great FPS on Dota 2 when using the laptop screen, but when I hook it up to my monitor I cant...

It could have, but my bottom line price would have been higher and since I have a nice desktop already, I really liked the portability of the 14".

Monitor the lenovo outlet, they even have current brand new models on there that for some reason are priced 100-150 cheaper because they're in the outlet section. "New" from the outlet means overstock or an unopened return, like a refused delivery.

Heat. Also, could be a software issue... My moms laptop was running super hot due to it basically always being stuck in turbo mode, one of her power profiles became corrupted. Yours could be an opposite issue. Download a CPU and GPU monitor, watch your speeds and temps, speeds should throttle...

Rarely you can find a "new" y50 in the lenovo outlet for around $1000. Good luck.
