So I bought a dvi to hdmi cable so I can watch my movies in hd quality. I've set my lg tv to 1080p and I downloaded 1080p movies but they lag, both in windows media player classic and vlc. I've changed the settings as best I could but nothing works. I also closed firefox and utorrent so the system doesn't overload but still nothing.

Here are pics of the settings, let me know if I need to change them.

What do u mean by configuration? U want to know the cpu and ram and so on?

windows xp, version 2002, service pack 3, intel R, CPU - 2.80GHz, 512MB of RAM

Nvidia, GEFORCE 8400 GS

I installed windows 7 but it made my pc slow so I went back to xp

I'm also not sure if I'm getting true 1080p. Do I need to change nvidia settings or vlc or windows media player classic settings for that, for better viewing?

I think your Pc configuration is quite outdated and also your Ram is too less, this is the only reason that you are facing such kind of problems. i don't wanna hurt your feelings but I think its time to upgrade it.

yeah if I want to upgrade it then it would be better to buy a new pc.

I've had this one for 8yrs and its working fine. I can watch 720p movies but wanted to watch 1080p, well I guess there is no solution?

also in nvidia it says to use either 'video player settings' or choose nvidia settings. Which one should I choose or it doesn't matter?

TV is hd so 720p movies watching on 1080p tv is fine enough :)
