2.1 surround problem

I just bought a Creative T3150W with 2 front speakers and one sub. The speakers requires that the front speakers are connected to the sub and the sub connected to my computer. If I do that Realtek HD Audio sees them as one speaker wich results in be getting mono sound. I can connect the front speakers and the sub separately but then I cant regulate the volume on my front speakers and with every volume option on my computer at max, I can barely hear the front speakers, but I have stereo and my sub is working fine at that point. What output on the sound card are you using? And what options do you have the ports set to? Many sound cards let you configure the ports to different settings, if you pick the wrong one you will have a very low signal going out.

Make sure the speakers are hooked up properly to the sub with no loose or broken cables.
