It amazes me that there may actually be people who can afford items such as these, yet disasters, such as Haiti, for example, always need more and more donations just so people can get the basic necessities of life.

Gay!

Anyway. Why someone would buy a six year old platform for 4k is mindbogglingly!

And we are supposed to live in a world where resources are in scarcity?
Not with tech that's by now a few decades behind us, which leads to creation of 'artificial resource scarcity'.

So idiotic.

And yet, with all the people rampaging how we have to conserve our resources, THIS is what they are being wasted on?

What's gay about it? Care to explain? I mean yeah, that comment was cheesy and I think it was a little phony but if you're going to criticize somebody's comment, you should elaborate beyond the lame (and rude) "gay" response.

I see no PS3s having relations with other PS3s of the same sex here.

If you think about it these gold plated items if not counterfeited could be worth much much more about 25 years down the road. If you had extra cash laying around a gold plated PS3 would be worth many thousands more later on. Just keep it in pristine condition and in a safe. I'd buy one now to sell to a collector later. But like everyone else in the country I don't have $5,000 in my front pocket, only $4900. :(

Using simple math, one can calculate that the thickness of a gold layer is about 0.03-0.04mm. Is that enought for $5000?

Are you a communist or socialist?

As Winston Churchill said "The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries."
