purchased a used acer model number 5534. Like the performance and the bells and whistels. It was shutting down after about 45 minutes of use. It would restart within 15 minutes. Realized that overheating was the problem tested it by using a box fan it never shut again. I will be purchasing a dual cooling pad shortly. My question is " How do I test the cooling fan to see if it is running or not?

Thank you in advance for your help,

Ben

Feel near the vent for exhaust. you should probably hear it to. If its used it's probably clogged up with dust. You can try and blow it out with canned air, but the best solution is to open it up, clean it out, and check the fan. little lube and a flick might get it going if its stuck, or it may need replaced. I usually pull the heatsink and put better thermal paste on while I'm in there, just cause.

Its very tight in a laptop with lots of short ribbon. cables though, so if you haven't taken one apart before and have a techy buddy might ask them for help. Don't wanna break it.
