3.1 TV speaker system

Hey guys. I wanted to ask if I got 2 front speakers and a centre speaker to make a 3.1 system for my TV. Would it sound better than a 2.1 system. Also would I need a receiver to use them or could they go into the TV without a receiver?

Yes having a center speaker which handles dialogue tends to make voices clearer. You would need a surround sound receiver to process the audio and power the speakers.
