I have a ASUS X550JX Laptop http://
The microphone I am trying to use is the SOONHUA SH-666 http://

I am having trouble with a new mic I bought on amazon about 5 days ago. The microphone is not being recognized by my computer as a microphone and only disables the audio because the computer thinks it is an AUX speaker. I have looked in my audio control panel and did not see the microphone under speakers or microphones. I have looked for about an hour on these forums and many others looking for a helpful answer and have found nothing.

I would greatly appreciate it if somebody could help me solve this, and I am sure other people will too.

You are inserting a stereo mic jack into a 3.5mm combo jack that only has mono input so you are confusing the audio controller. You need a breakout cable like this and then just plug the mic into the pink one and your headset in the other (green).

Your other option is to return your mic and purchase a usb mic and continue to use your laptops internal speakers.
