If I get a laptop with a 4k screen and then set Windows screen resolution to 1080x1920 will I experience the scaling issues I have read about? I am a photographer and plan to do image editing on the PC. It is only going to be a 15" machine. I don't need the higher 4k resolution but some of the 4k screens have much better color space gamut specs.

The question I am trying to answer is will a PC with a 4k screen set in Windows to 1080x1920 behave differently than a native 1080x1920 screen?

Solution
It'll work fine, no scaling issues if you force Windows' resolution to 1920x1080. It'll just be using more power since it's still a 4k screen (the electronics in the screen still have to render as many pixels as a 4k screen, it'll just end up sending the same value to each 4 pixels).

If you're talking about the new Dell XPS 15, I believe the 1080p screen in that model is now a IGZO screen with the same color gamut as the 4k screen.

Thank you. I'm looking at a few machines. If I can look at some 4k ones I have a lot more choice for high gamut.
