5.1 speakers on a 2.0 sound card

Hey!

I was wondering if I can connect my 5.1 speakers to a 2.0 sound card?

Was thinking of getting the "Sound Blaster X-Fi HD", which has a "line out"-phono connection.
My 5.1 speakers are Logitech X-530, which has an adapter that goes from green/black/orange to phono, so technically I can connect them to the sound card. But will I get surround sound? Or will I only get sound from all the speakers?

For real surround sound, you need surround source. If all you have from your sound card is stereo signal, it is up to the speakers (in your case), if they are capable of, to produce "surround" sound out of stereo source.
