For all of you people out there who have upgraded the hard drive on
thier ReplayTV, did you use a 5400 RPM drive or a 7200 RPM? From the
reading I have done, it seems the 5400 RPM drive is fast enough, runs
cooler and produces less heat. Are those drives really the best to
use?

And where can I buy big drives that are not 7200 RPM? That seems to
be all I can find. Even newegg.com only has a few to pick from...

You need to look harder.

I've bought two exact replacement hard drives for a ReplayTV there.

Bye.

So is it better to use 5400 RPM drives as opposed to using 7200 RPM
drives?

Cheaper, quieter, cooler with no usable increase in performance.

you can get 250 Gb and 320 Gb 5400 rpm drives at the above link.
what model replay do you have?
Most people report better success (less problems) with 5400 rpm drives
on 4500 models or earlier but apparently there are no problems with
the 7200's on 5000's.
check out the forums on www.planetreplay.com ...this has been covered
extensively there (probably on the avs forums as well)
