Fast, simple, colorful, powerful: this is a brand new Internet Explorer and before you dismiss it, we think you should at least give it a try

"Fast"- who cares.
"simple"- also who cares
"colorful"- who cares
"powerful"- don't even know what this means

But I keep asking this over and over when different browsers are mentioned- IS IT SECURE????? The older versions of IE definitely were not and would allow your machine to become hopelessly infected in a split second. But Firefox IS secure and WILL protect your machine. So, how does the new IE compare in this regards?

So lets see, Microsoft actually runs a CRC check on my downloads and compares that to the files other people have downloaded under the same name? So Microsoft is keeping a database filled with file names, CRCs (or other such data integrity checks), and possibly who downloaded them and when? Yikes. I'm sure the RIAA and MPAA (and anyone else) can't wait to get their hands on that information. It beats going through the ISPs. Does this still work with their private browsing mode? I.e. will it scan files I download under said mode (and thus, creating an entry in their database even though its not tracking anything locally on my PC)?

One thing I noticed about the private browsing mode is that it still caches the folder you last downloaded files to. So I think I'm safe, but then granma downloads her sugar cookie recipe to "d:/church hymns/porn/jpegs and gifs/blondes/September 2010/".

IE 9 has the same level of security as IE 8 in terms of protected mode, isolated tabs and browser-level protections. There is also the SmartScreen filter that looks for malware on Web sites, which has improvements in IE 9 and now checks file downloads by reputation.

All browsers have issues being completely secure because the more powerful they are the more ways there are to attack them(Firefox has had some important security updates lately for example) but IE has come a very long way from the situation you describe in the pre XP SP1 days.

hope that helps

once again a plain features listing.
journalists and reviewers should be careful how they write their reports.

you are confusing facts with benchmarks.
why don't you do a real benchmark of ie9 and let the reader chose instead of forcing them as reasons into the reader's throats.
or simply change the topic to "IE9 features" or "IE9 Review".

i'm not criticizing ie9, but that's a poor written article that obviously reflects the writer's thoughts.
i'm sorry but i feel bad seeing tomshardware turning into an advertising channel.

You forget, this is Tom's Guide, not Tom's Hardware. Not too many benchmarks on Tom's Guide. Just look back a little ways for benchmarks, I seem to remember TH doing a few a while ago.

9 Reasons not to get it:
1. Insecure
2. Spent how long on development?
3. Unoriginal
4. FireFox exists
5. Firefox exists, wait, did I say that already?
6. Chrome exists, but just get FireFox because Google is evil
7. Opera exists
8. Benchmarks mean nothing
9. Something better exists

I've been using IE since Win98. not even once I had a "security" problem.

unfortunately some people think being against Microsoft means that they actually know something about software. well, keep on dreamin' it wont hurt anyone!

Well, obviously, that's not an independet review. That's an advertisement paid by Microsoft in a review-form way and not a classical advert.

But still, certainly IE 9 is much better of course than previous. Common logic.

Firefox 4 will come back at the top of the browsers with long distance from second. But this isn't a comparison article. So, let's keep our opinions for that future article.

Force it to flush its cache when the browser is closed.

Faster - For every person who says "Who Cares?" there have been a hundred other FF or Chrome users who say "But IE is slower than what I use" - now they have equalised the speed issue it suddenly isn't relevant anymore? Either that or it was never relevant.

Simple - Another way of saying "easy to use" - another gripe from FF and Chrome crowd, now that IE is also as easy to use it suddenly isn't relevant any more? Same as above, maybe it was never relevant.

Four reasons why I won't try IE9 beta.
1) I don't do betas. I don't work for free.
2) Firefox
3) Opera
4) Chrome

One reason not to install IE9:

Opera... Why have hamburgers, when Opera offers steak?

1. insecure? man you must be a security expert you already ran it though a gambit of test, and 2nd it's a beta.. not a RC not everything is there.
2. spent time on development why don't you look at all the hype they have been trying to drum up for quite some time over their redesigned engine.
3. Unoriginal? really so what you are saying is everyone should be using opera, as most browser ideas are first done on the opera browser are then re done better by another browser.
4. Firefox lol well according to your number 3 firefox is the last one you want to be using as frankly it's the most unoriginal browser as it goes.
5. well you must suffer from really bad memory because you can't remember what you typed or read why you typed.
6. Chrome exists, but just get FireFox because Google is evil. so by "logic" of google is evil don't use chrome but wait use chrome? no wait firefox becuase clearly mozilla is also not a cooperation looking to make money.
7. well according to your number 3 this is the only browser allowed, although frankly opera wasn't the first web browser so maybe we shouldn't use it because it's not original. so i guess we need to use "WorldWideWeb" browser first developed.
8. benchmarks mean nothing. and if IE was slow i bet they would mean everything
9. something better exists. Well how do we measure better without a benchmark? and when we discount anything that is so called unoriginal leaving only one choice.
After following your logic my only choice is to kill john lennon.
