You can buy the following Acer laptop for $500 (no need to deal with rebates). It has a Core i5-5200u, nVidia 940m and a 1080p screen.

The 940m is more powerful than the 920m, but you will not be able to play GTA 5 at 1080p. You need to play that game at 1366x768 resolution for decent results. See following video shows GTA 5 being played with a nVidia 940m (or at least that what he claims). Actual FPS should be a little higher than what you see in the video because I assume he is using software to capture the video. Using "Normal" graphic settings instead of "High" should improve performance.
