Acer 4820TG Black Screen No Display Problem

My laptop is an Acer Aspire Timeline X 4820TG and the problem is that when I press the power button all it does is light up the button and nothing happens on the display.

If you can hear the usual sound of laptop booting up and no unusual beeps, it may be that the screen's backlight has blown.

When the laptop is running, look close up at the screen (maybe shine a torch at it at same time).
If you can see a faint image on the screen it needs a new backlight fitting behind it.

There is no sound and there sure is no image at all.
Actually before this happened I updated the ATI software and then it shut off. When I tried to reboot the computer, it opened but only until the windows logo screen and shuts off again. Then I tried to find a solution online and I saw this forum that says he solved it by changing this "something" (i forgot what was the exact word) option in the boot menu to DISCRETE.. so I did and after that, this is what happened it won't show any display at all.
